WHO IS IT FOR? - OBJECTIVES AND SKILLS

For students and professionals dedicated to the legal world.

 

For other professionals or students in science, business, social sciences, humanities  who want to acquire a working knowledge of Law and Legal English in order to meet their personal, professional or educational goals. 

 

Learn and improve the level of legal English, acquiring very high language skills that will enable students to sit the University of Cambridge ILEC examination, as well as obtain the Demtun  certificate and diploma.    

 

Acquire verbal and written communication skills related to legal practice, such as writing opinions and letters of advice, making claims and negotiating settlements. 

Knowledge of the law used in jurisdictions such as the UK, USA, Canada and Australia. Develop a comparative perspective with the European systems of law.  

  

Develop communication skills both in English Law and Legal English. 

 

Organise, design and practice activities, such as debates, negotiation and advocacy in order to improve the  student´s ability to question and argue. 


PROGRAMME CONTENT

Participants will study a variety of subjects of the UK, USA, Canadian and Australian Common law system.   They learn to analyse legal concepts, practice and assimilate specialised terminology, as well as experience advocacy and debating.

 

Students will obtain a Double qualification:

 

The Cambridge Certificate in International Legal English and the Demtun British College Diploma in         Anglo-American Law.  This is equivalent to an Advanced / Proficient Level of English (C1 / C2 of the European Framework of Reference).
